Mission Brewery Downtown San Diego
Mission Brewery

And then prohibition shut it down. Re-established in 2007, we are honored to say that four months and four beers in, Mission was awarded two national medals at the Great American Beer Festival. Fast forward to 2010 our plunder of precious beer medals has gown considerably. Three Gold, three Silver and two Bronze medals now fill our bounty. A dream come true for long-time die-hard home brewers. From modest beginnings to a state of the art custom made brewery in the historic Wonderbread building just east of San Diego’s baseball stadium Petco Park at 1441 L. St (corner of 14th & L) . We are brewing beer and our tasting bar is now open to the public. There’s nothing more enjoyable than a pint while watching the beer you’re drinking being made a few feet from where you’re sitting. No catchy gimmicks. No national campaigns. Just great handcrafted beer made in San Diego! Visit the Mission Brewery Website     Location

Lou and Mickey's San Diego
Lou and Mickey's

This story begins in the cold landscape of Northern Minnesota, a region abundant with fine beef, dairy and produce. In the 1930s and early 1940s Samuel King ran a small trucking business distributing meat, produce and other goods. Of his five children, his eldest son Lou, and youngest son Mickey, helped their father deliver goods from the Canadian border down to Minneapolis and back to Duluth, all the while developing a discerning eye for quality. World War II put the boys on the move. Mickey was serving as an Army officer when Lou moved his family across the country to California to enlist. Fortunately, the war ended and Lou was never inducted. Instead, Lou found an opportunity to purchase a restaurant and bar in Huntington Park. Brother Mickey returned from the war and joined Lou. Together, they built a successful string of King’s restaurants based on their knowledge of quality meat, seafood, produce and service. Visit the Low and Mickey's Website     Location

Hodad’s has been recognized as one of the top 5 burger joints in the country by CNN with Hodad’s being the only West Coast restaurant to get recognized. Located in Downtown San Diego, Hodad's offers some of the West Coast's biggest hamburgers. According to Forbes Traveler, the most popular menu item, the double, weighs in at well over half a pound and is piled with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, mayonnaise, mustard and ketchup. Hodad's famously messy burgers come wrapped in wax paper, which owner Mike Hardin half-jokingly calls a "burger trough." Do as the locals do and order a double bacon cheeseburger with fries and a shake.
